95 Blazer fuse #10

95 Blazer fuse #10
As the title says, I have a 95 Blazer and was driving the other day at a steady speed and suddenly it went dead. Fuse #10 blows every time I turn the key. The crank position plug was pretty wet with oil/gunk so I cleaned it all off and left it unplugged; tried the key- fuse blew. I left it unplugged and unplugged the ignition control module on the bracket with the coil but left the coil wire plugged in; turned the key and the fuse didn't blow. Of course the 95 seems to have an oddball of a module because no one can seem to test it and I can't afford to throw a 125 dollar part at the problem. I've had ignition modules go bad on other vehicles and it's always a progressive thing; not a sudden internal short. Has anyone ever heard of this happening or did I change the behavior of the short by unplugging it(wild goose chase). I think my cheapest fix is to hit a junk yard and get one to see if it starts before buying a new one. Any ideas?
