Default 95 Blazer Motor locked - Options?

I have been looking for an engine for my 1995 blazer 4wd 4 door. I can find engines from about every year other than the 95.

What are my options if I can't find a 95 engine?

Lets say I find a 97 engine. X or W or whatever. Can I get away with this as long as I change oilpan/oil pump/pickup tube and intake or are there other differences? I don't mind changing over parts to make it work, I just want to go the easiest route with as little work as possible.

Any recommendations on what to do here?

Going a few years older would be a drop in option for the most part. Going even 1 year newer would require you to replace everything but the short block (block, pistons, crank).

95 is a tough year for sure. So many single year intricacies.

i don't know what cost you're working with but i thought i throw this out there.

in autorv they have a 5.7L listed for 1800 bucks.
i've seen a few blazers converted for v8 in the 2nd gens.
not even sure if it would work in a 95 but i thought it would be another option to consider because a new 4.3L was around 3500, so up front a v8 would be cheaper but im unsure of the modifcations that would be required.

Thanks for the replies.
So going with an older engine would be easier in my case? What years should I look for, say 91-94? I'm not familiar at all with the engine specs for different years. I know my engine is a W.

in my opinion (which probably dont count for much ) ......have you looked into a rebuilt short block replacement? then take what you need off your original .

I found a 1995 S10 with low miles, and I can hear it run. Going to go look at it tomorrow. I'm hoping this will work. I will probably have to change the oil pan I think, since it's a 2wd going into a 4wd. Anything else I should look out for? Someone said something about looking at where the plug wires come up at???
