I have a 2001 Chevy Blazer 4.3 L 4x4 that seems to be experiencing the same problem. I changed the fuel filter and it's now worse! I'm at 112k miles. I did a full tune up at 54k miles.
I am not convinced that it is the fuel pump. It almost feels like it is going to stall, but does go when I step on the gas.
I've used 93 octane a few tanks ago. Even put in some of the STP injector cleaner. Seemed to help, but now it's back and worse than ever.
My service engine light has been on. I had the odbII(??) read twice - once before changing fuel filter and once after changing fuel filter. Both time it says it'sthe ECS (electronic Coolant sensor). I bought one, but have not changed it out yet. Going to get an oil change in the morning and will have the mechanic do the ECS.I read thissensor is to inform the computer of the engine's temperature so that fueling and ignition timing can be modified for all temperature operating modes.
I'm still doubtful that theECS is the problem for this "feels like it's choking when I drive up hills and feels like it's going to stall when at a stop" sensation I am having right now. But maybe it is?????
I'm not convinced it's the alternator, either, since my lights are fine and have no dimming to them.
I will have the fuel pressure regulator tested, too, to see if that's the problem.
I appreciate any advice anyone can offer.
Thanks!

GOOD NEWS! VIP pulled the code (3 times a charm!) and it was misfiring 5 ....cap and rotor - junk!
Hopefully this will solve my problems, at least short run, until I can get some cash to do the plugs and wires this spring.
Thanks for an awesome forum! I will never be taken by a garage again just because I am a woman! Knowledge is power!

iamfrugal, your problem, with the added items, sounds quite different than that posted by the OP. Please create a new thread on your problem and we will discuss it there.

OK dropped the tank and brock some connector with a hose front/left side on the tank (near drivers seat) any idea what its for??
the pump I have installed (AIRTEX # E3925M) has a square connector on it and the original has like a oval/round connector. OTHER wise identical..

That little plastic peice is the rollover vent valve. It's part of the evap. system. I did the same thing when replacing my fuel pump. It cost me $20 to get a new valve. It does need to be hooked up or you will smell gas fumes all the time as you drive down the road. It should come out with just about a quarter turn.

Well this sounds like mine. Last year my fuel filter was clogged and burnt me fuel pump out. SO i would change the fuel filter. fuel filter is like 20 instead of 450 to 500 for the pump. if its not the filter it will be the pump

We fixed the roll over valve and installed the tank, Today the engine light came on and I tracked the emission code to the roll over valve. It broke again. And ideas on getting it out without dropping the tank? I can reach the valve just can't turn it easily .
