it can be done without dropping the tank completely but when I did it I still had to drop it some to snake my hand up there. Hope that Airtex pump doesn't come back to haunt you. I installed one once cause a customer wanted to save some $.. Needless to say-6 months later.....he didn't(save $). Say your prayers to Saint Fuel pump! Jerry

You should be able to loosen the rear strap and remove the front strap to drop down the front of the tank (use a jack if there is much fuel in it - well, just use a jack...
). Just watch as you lower the front of the tank that you do not mess up anything at the rear.

Hey guys when I took the old pump out I do not believe it had an O-ring on it. The one that can with the new pump did not allow for the clip to secure the tamk. IS there supposed to be a o-ring on the pump? There is some play side to side (with the pump /sending unit)and I filled up today and there is some gas outside where the pump is. please respond. I am speaking of the Large O Ring that mounts between the pumps assembly and the tank.
Thank you

There is definitely supposed to be an o-ring on the pump assembly. Did you clean the top of the tank prior to putting the new assembly back down on?

although sometimes TOUGH there IS an 'o' ring and my money says it was removed to make the installation of the fuel pump easier. You see(and you're shaking your head yes) once the old pump is out and you go to install the new pump, all('o' ring and tank cavity-I always lube up with wheel bearing grease to make the install easier) should be lubed and then the pump assembly needs to be perfectly centered, then pushed down allowing the metal ring to do its thing. Not the easiest thing in the world sometimes thus the 'o' ring removal(alleged). I'm sorry to say-if it were mine I'd drop the tank, again, install an 'o' ring and make sure that EVAP vent valve is 100% correct/tight. After all that-hopefully you'll be good to go! Jerry PS if you could ever exchange the Airtex for an ACDelco it might be an investment in your future.

Damn I knew better! It was snowing and cold and yes tooks a short cut (some short cut now) I guess I have to drop the tank again (crying and pouting now!)
thanks guys for ruing my night LOL
thank you
BTW if I have less then 1/4 tank and drive down my ramp to underground parking the blazer will stall (no fuel) but when leveled out the truck starts and runs fine. I believe the gas goes to the front of the tank! is there a baffle problem with the blazers the causes all the fuel to go to the front of the tank?

i swear I did not see the o ring on the pump , BUT it could have fallen off when removing the unit from the tank. It was snowing and cold them days.

Until you inspect you'll not know for sure. Maybe it is there but..may be out of place-who knows. Back to the 1/4 tank question...due to the design of that tank 1/4 tank of fuel ISN'T much due to the shape of the tank and the fact that one quarter tank may not even 1/4 tank. It may be 1-2 gallons. Many will agree on this forum..Try your hardest never to run lower than 1/2. The fuel pump will run cooler/live longer and you know how fun it is to change.re-change a fuel pump! Jerry[&o]

Thanks Jerry, I appreciate the help and advise to guys give.. This truck has almost 200,000 on it Maybe I will cut an access hole over the area where the pump is , providing no wiring is in my way.

darn the gauge reads1/4 tank and it ran out of fuel today.
I wounder in the sending unit (floating rod) is not reading the amount of fuel in tank right. after if stopped i put 10.26 gal in it and it reads nearly full.
any thoughts
and it was on level ground. MY Pontiac can (gauge) can read empty and still get a couple miles on it
