Hold the black probe to battery negative.
Hold the red probe to the pink wire on the ignition coil.
Have an assistant crank the starter while you watch voltage.
Also watch it when turning the ignition to the OFF position, (when you got the sputtering).
Post your results.
The yellow/red spark was bothering me.
I figured, what the heck...
Got new plugs, cap, rotor, wires and some MAF cleaner.

Fired right up!

#3 spark plug is easy if you slip the socket on it and come from the top with an offset wrench.

Maybe I should just start replacing stuff here and there...
Won't hurt.

Thanks BF and all who contributed..

Glad you got it going when the day comes for me to fire up the engine on my 96 I hope it starts without having to spend days trying to figure out why not.

I left the blazer at a friends shop, so maybe he can figure out what's happening, cause I just don't have the time to really check it out since I have other cars I need to work on at my shop

I am having the same problem.
last saturday i was driving home, and my 96 blazer randomly died check engine light went on and then wouldnt start back up it only cranks and cranks

had towed home.
tested had low fuel pressure around 30 psi
put fuel pump in then had good fuel pressure around 50 psi
still cranks only so then i found my distributor mounting ears were cracked so i ordered a distributor rotor and cap
timed and installed same thing cranks only
i found the old distibutor teeth were worn and damaged so i thought that was the problem but turns out it still doesnt start so then in the mean time from cranking so much i killed the starter. so i replaced that too.
I am without a vehicle going on about a week.
cant figure out problem
I have spark i have fuel and i believe the timing is correct too.
Oh and this started on my week off !!!!

50psi is not enough for the engine to start, much less, run. Key ON, engine OFF, fuel pump running, pressure must be 60psi to 66psi. It must remain above 55psi for at least 10 minutes after the pump shuts off. Post your results to both tests. What brand of fuel pump did you install? (stay away from Airtex pumps)

In post #24 you said pressure was 50psi, now you say it's 65psi. What did you do to make the pressure get to 65psi?

Cranking and engine running readings mean nothing, all tests are done with the engine off. What is the pressure 10 minutes after the pump shuts off?
