Default 96 blazer no start engine cranks then backfires

I bought this blazer with 262k on it from my dad replaced the plugs wires dcap/rotor button, and the dist gear. it ran great for about 2 weeks parked it one night went to start it and it would crank for about two seconds then the starter would bog really bad and crank easily again and do the same over and over. went and got a new fuel filter hoping that was it and not timing chain etc the fuel filter was foobered black fuel/white came out of it so i thought awesome tried to crank it and now all it does is spin spin spin then backfires. My dad bought this truck brand new in 96 and it has never had a starting issue other than the d cap arcing out(bad dist gear) and a bad fuel pump... it sat for almost 2 years once and it cranked right up on the first try so... this issue really made me go wtf lol. I'm thinking it might be the timing chain but then again i dont think it is because it ran perfectly fine before i parked it.
Thanks jbb sorry for the bad grammar

are any codes coming up? Any black smoke out the tailpipe? I would start with a fuel pressure and leakdown test. Key on egine off, should be about 60 to 65 and shouldn't go below 55 for 10 minutes.

What brand distributor cap & rotor did you install? If it was something other than AC Delco, that's most likely the problem. 2 weeks is about right for some of the aftermarket brands

I use techron concentrate at every oil change. Glad it's running good for you again
