Question 97' Blazer LS Drivers Electric Window Works When It Wants To

I have a 1997 Blazer LS and my drivers side electric window works when it wants to. When I tried to lower it today, it was dead and I did NOT hear and clicking noises from the switch. It did it once before and I couldn't get it to go until just out of the blue, it went up. This is just my project truck needing very little work and this is one of my bug's reappearing. Not road driven or road ready! Thx!!!

My first guess would be a bad switch. I would bet Capt Hook has a post somewhere on testing it. In fact, I know there is a thread in the last few months about replacing the switch. Good luck!

I will try and search the site. I'm rather new and still trying to figure out my way around. I did get my window up again and haven't had a chance to do any testing. I figured maybe work from the switch back but I need to find a diagram as to where these wires route to. Thx for the comment!

The problem with the window switches is the design and the replacement switch uses the same exact design.

Pop the switch panel out of the driver's door and remove the electrical connectors...which is the most difficult part and requires a bit of patience!

Requires a proper size blade screwdriver to get down to the release tab....a royal PITA. Chevy engineers wanted to ensure this connector never fell off.

Anyways if you are able to get the switch panel to your work bench, pry off the bottom cover...careful...it is just plastic. Then you will see how the electrical contact is made...by a simple twist of each individual switch terminal.

Just a matter of un-twisting each terminal, clean the terminal and stainless steel "circuit board" and gently twist, in the same direction otherwise it will snap off, the terminal again. Pop the bottom cover back on, mate the electrical connectors and give it a try.

Or you can just get a replacement switch panel and pop it into the door and be fine for several years....until it needs cleaning.

Or visit the local parts yard and get another switch panel...it may or may not work depending upon how dirty it is.

Just a really bad design of the electrical contact...stainless steel and copper plated terminals....dissimilar metals that corrode.

Good luck.
