Default 98 blazer 2nd gear

i got a 98 4x4 with 147000 on it. it looks as thoud the tranny pan has been dropped before so i suspect fluid has been changed before. heres the problem, if i put shifter in 1st gear the truck has great pull no hesitation, put shifter in 2nd gear from dead stop and you must give it alot more gas to get it moving seems like its slipping with no pull at all, put it in 3rd gear from dead stop and truck has great pull almost the same as 1st gear. fluid level does look overfilled. no lights are on at all showing a problem. could the overfilled fluid be the problem or is the tranny needing a rebuild?

I noticed that last winter. I came across a Blazer ad on here I think it was, and it said that Blazer's have a "winter start mode" where they start out in 2nd gear (in the 2nd gear position) to minimize wheel spin. However I think it puts more wear on the torque converter. I could be wrong, but I think I read somewhere in a transmission trouble thread that when in limp home mode (2nd gear) it makes it harder on the converter because it has to slip more to move the truck

It feels sluggish when you put in drive 2 becuse, well the trans is in 2nd gear.....
It won't downshift to first when 2 is selected.
Think of it as a manual trans, starts off in 1st easily, try to start in 2nd and you have to give it more gas feathering the clutch.
Get what I'm saying?

this is an automatic not a manual. this doesnt apply as 3rd gear has the same take off as 1st if not better

With these vehicles, the ordinary shift pattern doesn't apply. 3rd means the trans will shift through 1st through third like normal but not go into fourth. When the shifter is put into the 2nd position, the transmission goes into 2nd and stays there. If you want more power but not to go past second for whatever reason, shift manually from first after you're moving. Or just put it in Drive and leave it alone
