Default 98 Blazer code recovery

My wife's 98 Blazer recently had service engine soon light come on. It stays on all the time. How can I pull the code without a scanner? On my vette, I can jump a couple of pins in the connector with a paper clip and get the codes to dispay. I assume there is a similar method for the Blazer?
Thanks.

You cannot. A scanner is necessary. You can get it done for free at you nearest Autozone or Advance Auto.
