Default 98 Blazer shut off while driving

98 Blazer LT 4wd 4 door

My Blazer shut off while I was driving it. There is about half a tank of gas in it. The low fuel warning light came on. I assuming it is the fuel pump. Could it be anything else?

It can be a couple of things. Has it restarted? Any codes?

It would not restart. It’s at the shop so I can not check the codes.

What could it be other than the fuel pump?

I would have to list dozens off possibilities involving fuel control, ignition, system voltages and grounds, computers, … This is pointless without a truck to diagnose to narrow down the possibilities through testing which is what I assume that the repair shop is doing. If they can’t get it figured out, you get the truck back and you want to proceed I will be more than glad to help you but we are going to need fuel pressure gauge, multimeter, spark tester, code reader, etc.

l am confused because in your initial post you said it could be a couple of things. What does voltage grounds have to do with a low fuel warning light being on?

I did not realize that you did not have the truck and we could not do some initial testing to narrow this down. I am going to bow out on this one and let other members help you. Good luck, I hope that the shop takes care of you.

I have a 99 and my fuel gauge was working when it wanted to then it died and left me on the side of the road, it was my fuel pump, now yours could be a number of things like injectors or computer, just about anything but with the gauge acting up I would say its most likely the fuel pump, its easy to replace even with fuel in the tank its easy to get down and replace the pump, and they are not expensive at all I got mine on Amazon for $32 had it done in less than an hour, just be careful with the fuel lines that plastic is easy to break if you are not careful.
