Default 98 S10 Blazer dies when you step on the gas

I have a 98 S10 Blazer, that starts fine, go into reverse to back out of the driveway fine. Put it in drive and step on the gas it dies. put it park, turn key off and then back on, starts up a little rough, but runs. Put it in drive and go. runs fine. Can stop and start it again with no issues. I can hear the fuel pump come on before I turn the key, and it runs for a bit after I turn the key off. This happened once about a month ago, now it is happening regularly. I have owned the truck since new and it has 160,000 miles on it. I have not replaced the fuel pump or the fuel filter. Any ideas will be appreciated!

160,000 miles and have not replaced the fuel filter yet. Man that thing ought to be full of junk by now.

I would start there first. Might also be why you here the pump whining after you do start it. Forcing it to stay up to the PSI needed to keep running.
