99 4.3L blazer engine noise
I have just purchase a 99 S10 blazer it has a squeak knock rattle noise in rear of engine. At times when idlin it will momentarily go away and when I drove it home under verry low load crusing it went away at times I can change noise by unplugging # 6 coil .I have looken on alldata it states you have to remove transmission and transfercase before removing the engine. Has any one just removed engine from the engine bay leaving trans in truck I think the flex plate may be cracke has anyone done this or has a similr noise. Any input would be helpfull thanks
Yes, yes, and yes.
Yes you can remove the engine without removing the tranny or t-case.

To replace the flexplate.
You have three choices, remove engine, remove tranny, or slide the tranny back about 4"-6". I slide mine back. You basically remove the tranny except for a few things, you can leave the cooler lines hooked up, you can leave the t-case attached, however you need to support tehm on a floor jack, something moveable. I took one of my tranny to engine bolts to teh hardware store and bought 4 6"-8" long bolts. When I removed the lower four tranny to engine bolts I replaced them with the longer bolts. This way I could slide the tranny back and still leave it in the truck. Gave me enough rom to get the flexplate out. You only need about 3" of room. Enough room to get wrenches in there to take the flexplate bolts out, room for the bolts to come out, and room for the flexplate to slide off the crank.
This link is on how to remove a tranny.
