99 Blazer, 26-1/2" Axle???
I had the rear end in my truck rebuilt last year. When it was rebuilt, we swapped the old bearings out and installed the bearing savers that offset the bearing to a new location on the axle shaft. After about 3 months, I started to get a whine in the rear end and just got around to opening it up. The whine has become a hum and vibration. After opening it up, we find that the bearings in the bearing saver have been rotating on the axle shaft and the axles are toast. We called the local parts house and told them we have a 99 2wd Chevy Blazer w/o limited slip. They said they would ship us axles the next day. So hear I sit with 4 axles and still have not found a part that is the right fit. We have tried the Dorman part 630111 which is 28-13/16". This was way to long and was obvious. The second part they sent us was Dorman 630124 which is 26-5/8" long which is 1/8" to long and we didn't find this out until we tried to put on the caliper brackets. So this is what I know, it is a 7-5/8" rear, 28 spline, 5 lug, 26-1/2" when measured on the diagonal correctly. After being stumped, we called Chevy with the VIN # and they told us we were correct and it was 26-1/2" lg and would not tell us the part number, but gave us a price around $350. So hear I am googling everything I can and have yet to find anything that would work. Any help or insight would be appreciated. Thanks guys.

if you go to the chevy dealership, have them look up the part for you. they will then tell you how much it is going to murder your wallet for, at this point i give them the "sticker shock face" and then ask for the part number so you can come back at a later time to order them because "you didnt think that they would be so much."
works every time.

Not sure which blazer you have but Chevrolet made 3 different axels. I had to replace both of mine. Unfortunatley I had the same wild goose chase with the axles. I have an '01 Xtreme and the axles are the 26-1/2" axles. After I ordered mine from Summit racing, them telling me they would fit, they were too long. They were 28-13/16" and the other type was 30" axels. Sent them back and got money back. I called scrap yards in Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, Tennessee, Arkansas...nothing. Finally found one in Florida. got it for $150 and had to get the other one new from the dealer which cost about roughly $500 with tax for one. I hate when dealers make odd parts. But you are correct with rear...7-5/8", 3:42 gears (stock), 28 spline. I got the bearings, seals and inspection plate cover gasket from Advance Auto. The rear end oil is 80w-90 and make sure when you change the seals that you get the correct ones. Chevrolet made two different ones depending on where is was made...America or Canada.

F.W.I.W. Recently had to replace my right rear axle on the '99 Blazer 4WD. learned that two axles were availible, one for disc brakes,(mine), and one for drum brakes. i was broke down an hour from home with 12 inches of snw headed in. Could not get a disc brake axle,(afternoon on a Saturday), but did get a drum brake one. the difference being the flange thickness is thicker on the drum axle. It was the only one availible so we took it with the bearing, seal and cover gasket only $140.00 To get a proper install we had to grind some relief into the inner face of the caliper bracket to make up the difference in flange thickness. Never having done any repair like this before I spent 9 hours in 20 degree weather on my back, hard packed snow in my buddies driveway,( this included time chasing parts), did I tell you how much fun it is trying to syncronize spider gears? Did get back on the road and home before the storm. Thank you to the guys at "Warren Gear" for the tip on the axles, wanted to share that with you.

After running around like a mad man, I was able to get the part number from a different Chevy dealership. They listed at $450 per axle. I googled the part number I was give, 26058696, and found drivetrainamerica.com. These guys were great. I purchased the axles at $100 a piece new as well as new seals and bearings for $250 shipped 3 day. The parts should be here on Friday so I will report back if all goes well with the assembly. And to note the axle has either a K code or C code stamped in it and K is for Canada and C is for USA. Apparently the Canadian units use a metric seal and the USA units use a imperial seal. This said, the guy said if the person that originally rebuilt this unit put a C code seal in the rear, it would leak and eventually fail. I am starting to think this is what happened as when I pulled the rear wheels off, they had oil all over them. This would lead me to believe the wrong seals were installed which leaked oil and I ended up with a low lube level which eventually lead to bearing failure and scrapping the axles. Hard and expensive lesson to learn. $8 seals can cost you 2 weeks frustration and a lot of headache & money.
