Default 99 Blazer - The ol' Brake light problem

Hi all,

My 99 Blazer had the ol' Brake light problem where the CHMSL would work but the side brake lights would not. Checked all fuses and came to the conclusion that it was the multi-function switch (as is so common).

Installed a new multi-function switch and now have a new problem: When the DRL/headlights are on - the brake lights are always on. With the DRL/headlights off the brakes still don't work. Sigh.

Can anyone point me in the right direction in regards to troubleshooting/diagnosing.

Thanks.

Sounds like you may have gotten a bad switch, that would be the only place those two circuits would even remotely come in contact with each other.

Thanks, I was dreading that answer

But hey, at least I've had a trial run at getting to the effin' switch.

The multifunction switch is the turn signal stalk. Located on the passenger side of the steering column. Also controls headlight hi/lo, cruise, and windsheild wiper/washer.
