Default ABS bull crap

so last week I was driving my 03 Blazer and the abs light and park light went off in the dash. (these were on all the time) . When I got to the next stop I almost didn't stop because the ABS kicked in and pulsed me almost 1/4 mile. Light came back on and it was a normal pedal.

I did my weekend run without incident and last week my daughter was going offroading and she called me that the brakes had messed up. I got her to park the blazer and I went to pick it up with the tow truck because she was nervous. I had totally forgot about the ABS incident.

Question: Can I somehow unplug the abs system? making it totally off.

There is a large 60 amp fuse in the Underhood fuse box that powers the ABS. Pull it, and it will disable the ABS. I ran my blazer like this for years.

The issue you're having is a sign of dirty wheel speed sensors, or a bad wheel bearing, so I would check the front wheel bearings just to be safe.

Agreed. Sounds like it's getting a reading that a wheel is locked up so it's engaging the ABS system...

its not even a chevy thing, fords and dodges do the same crap. the worst is when a customer brings it in and just leaves a vague description saying something like the brakes make a funny noise when you drive it and have a fun time trying to stop on your first attempt

ok thanks...I'll pull the fuse. I had the truck looked at a few months back when I put it on the road. It had been parked in my lot for a few months and I wanted it to be safe. Only issue we had found was a rotten brake line and it was fixed.
