Default abs kicking in when stopping

so i just replaced my ball joints and also had my ABS light on for a bit and it would engage the ABS intermittently so went ahead and replaced the sensor. Now my ABS light is off and it's all good until the last few seconds of stopping, my ABS kicks in. my question is, what are the chances that i need to clean the hole in the the hub that the ABS sensor goes into or, maybe i accidentally got some grease on my rotors, would that cause the ABS to kick it? like i said everything is completely normal until the last few seconds of stopping.

it sounds like a sensor issue...it is getting a false reading and engaging the abs system.
take out the one you put in, carefully clean the area and the sensor and put it back in.
also make sure the sensor has no nicks in the wire...and fully connected at the connector and full seated on the hub.

My ABS started acting up a couple years ago whenever I came to a stop. Turned out one of the front hub bearings had gone bad & had play in it - it was this that was upsetting the air-gap between the sensor & the pulse ring in the hub. I bought & fitted a new hub assembly (which came with a new sensor) & the problem has not occured since. Strangley enough though the faulty bearing did not get noisy - maybe it would have done if i'd let it get worse?

yeah rust builds up and actually pulls the sensor away. very common issue with chevy vehicles.

well you guys were right, was pretty dirty. took it apart and cleaned it up inside and out. the o-ring was also causing it to not seat down properly and when i pulled it out the o-ring was actually almost sheared off, so i just took the o-ring off for now until i have time to get another o-ring or exchange the sensor all together.
