Default ac compressor dragging on motor?

I have a 96 chevy blazer 4.3 with ac. The compressor leaks and needs replacing so I haven't used it recently. The pulley is grinding and getting worse, but I am getting a new one soon. My question is, can the compressor pulley put a drag on the motor, it seems like I have to give it more pedal than usual to get it going. I just replaced the idler pulley a couple weeks ago because it seized, backed the threads out and the belt went flying. So I am wondering how much drag is being exerted on the rest of the pulleys and motor. Thanks
