Default AC Leak

My 99 Blazer quit cooling recently, I believe the freeon leaked out because a long while back i put some dye in and now there is some dye stain ontop of the compressor where the hoses connect. Is this a common problem and are there some sort of o rings or gasket that probably needs to be replaced?

That's unusual place for bad o rings. perhaps the last person who installed that coupling was sloppy.

You can get O rings for your compressor by model/year/compressor but I suggest that unless you have an evacuation pump which goes down to at least 27 in/hg, take it to a shop. They shouldnt charge much for that fix.

That's exactly where mine went bad. If the system has already leaked out all the freon why not just change the o rings yourself then take it in to be vacuumed and refilled? The o rings themselves only cost a dollar or two.

Suggest, though, if you do it yourself use a strong light and a magnifying glass if necessary and inspect very close for nicks or scratches in the o-ring seating area.

Understand that o-rings seal by operating pressure not just by squish. if there's a nick on the outer circumference of that recess it may leak again.
Same goes for the mating surface

I have read in a few posts that these pumps have a bad reputation for failing because of their bad design, I heard they fail internally tho and not where you talked about. it could be possible that you have a combination of both. Mine failed to, not sure where but but I'm getting a new pump at some point. Not too worried about it cuz I live in washington and our weather usually sucks lol.

Due to the Dye stains on top it looks like it probably is where I'm talking about, the compressor works fine, its new, a backyard mechanic put it in for me and i think pettyfog is right about the sloppiness. It cooled fine for about 2.5 months then quit.
