Default Advice needed on 4x4 issue

Hey guys,

Now that I have the truck running like a top, I'm starting to delve into the smaller issues. I have tie rods and brakes on order and waiting for them, so until they come in I'm looking at other issues. Two things are bugging me, but don't affect the performance of the truck at all...

1. Voltage gauge is not accurate.

The voltage reads at ~13.5 when I first start it, then sits at around 11.5-12 while driving around. Multimeter shows 14.02v at battery, and at alt connections. So the gauge or wiring to it may be bad. Here's the weird thing... When I press my brakes, the lights dim for 1/2 second then come back. When I have my turn signal on, the dash lights dim ever so slightly with each flash, and the volt gauge and gas gauge are bobbing to the flashes as well lol. Other than that, the truck starts just fine every day, cold or hot, and the voltage seems to stay at 14v when running (Aftermarket gauge connected). I mean, I get the odd dips when I turn things on, but the alt rebounds to 14v quickly. Any help?

2. 4x4 4 low doesn't engage.

My 4x4 works in 2wd, and 4 high. The actuator moves and engages. The 4wd high gear works great. When I push 4 low, it doesn't do anything. Not even a click from the relay/solenoid that controls the vacuum to the actuator. I don't really need the 4 low, but since I'm bored and I have to wait for parts, thought I might look into it?

Sorry for the long post, but I want to get things sorted out. Also, by updating the thread, other people with similar problems may get what they need...

Hmmmm...not sure what to say about the volatge gauge issue.

Regarding the 4-lo...have you read how to do this in your owners manual? I believe you have to be going about 1-2 miles per hour and in Neutral for it to shift into 4 LO.

Ahhhh... I don't have a manual with the truck, so I wouldn't have read that. I'm going to have to try that. Thanks!

I'm not sure what year Blazer you have, but my 98 owners manual says you must be moving 3 mph or less (or stopped) and the transmission in neutral. The Preferred method is to have the vehicle moving 1 or 2 mph, press and release the 4 lo switch. Wait for the 4Lo indicator light to stop flashing and remain illuminated before shifting your transmission into gear. Shifting out of 4Lo back to 4Hi or 2Hi is the same procedure.

I've only used 4Lo once while way up in the mountains and I backed into a snow berm and high centered. It really works and makes a difference, just a bit tricky to get into, and out of, 4LO.

I have the same problem,

However - What happened when I switched into 4Lo - I was in nuetral of course, High centered in some snow... I pressed the button and it started flashing and it kept flashing for about 10-15 seconds, Then went out completely, With no other lights on. At this point it was obviously in 4lo, But I couldnt get it out of 4Lo, What I ended up having to do was disconnect the TCCM harness and repedidly reconnecting it while having a friend turn the ignition, This brought it back to life - Never had this problem since, 4hi and 2hi switch between eachother fine - But dare I go into 4Lo without carrying any tools to get that TCCM off....

Any ideas?

In your case, cide, it seems your transfer case detected an encoder fault and locked up. By resetting the TCCM, you made it forget about the fault and reset to the 2wd position.
