Air bag light on...but no codes

I purchased a 1996 Blazer about a month ago. The prior owner supposedly attempted to troubleshoot a tranny problem and replaced the ignition switch on the column. In doing so he "snatched" the air bag off the steering wheel and ripped the clockspring harness out (I'm surprised it didn't blow up in his face). I fixed the tranny (harness was bad) and replaced the clockspring. The air bag light was blinking and I carried it to a local shop to clear the codes. The code came right back (B1042) and the mechanic told me he had seen this before and that the DERM/Air bag module was bad. I picked up another module (actually 2 now) from the local salvage yard. I replaced the module now the light stays on constant. I reinstalled the old one and swapped for another module at the salvage yard and the light is on constant with all of them. The mechanic tried to reset the codes however the Tech1 shows no codes. Now he says that the problem is the arming sensor. I don't want to keep throwing money at it and the local Chevy dealer "doesn't have anyone that can work on something that old...LOL. Does anyone have a clue as to where I could start with this thing?
