Default Air Compressor off/on repeatedly

hey y'all. It's almost summer time which means im going to once again try and tackle my 98 Blazer's air conditioning system. Last year when I tried to charge the system, I kept getting a reading that it was full. I was using an AC Pro can from Walmart with the gauge on the nozzle. However, the compressor never kicked on. Even before that when I had the AC on full blast (hasn't been working since I got the car), the compressor has never kicked on and I've never gotten cold air blowing from the system. Is it possible the system is just too low on coolant and needs a full bottle before the compressor comes on?

The problem with those kits from Walmart is that they don't remove the air from the system. The best course of action would be to A) make sure that the leak is fixed, B) make sure that the system holds vacuum and then put the appropriate amount of refrigerant into it. If it still doesn't come out it is most likely the pressure switch that won't allow the system to kick on if the refrigerant is too low. They fail often and are a very cheap easy fix.
