Hello all,
I'm having some issues with my air conditioner system. Before I put any r134a into it, the compressor would kick on for about two seconds and go off, while I had the can with gauge hooked up the gauge would go from Lowest pressure while the compressor was on. And when the compressor kicked off the gauge would go all the way maxed. I put some refrigerant into the system, and it seems that the compressor would stay on for longer now bit still will shut off after a couple seconds. And inside it will start to cool off but then will go right back to hot when the compressor shuts off. Any ideas? Thanks.

As long as your sure you have good operating range preasures on both the High and Low side service ports, usually a short compressor cycle is due to a fouled accumulator and/or oraffice tube. The total repair bill will run you about $80, roughly $30 for the accumulator, $2 for the orafice tube, and about $45 for 32oz of 134-A.
Side Note;
If I were you, I would splurge on the orafice tube and get a self adjusting variable tube, this will allow for the coldest air possible reguardless of rpm.
Good Luck and report back.

Thanks for the help lanny! I am able to find new accumulators on ebay for cheap, but i cannot find a orafice tube. does it go by another name?
Edit: also, is this something i can do myself, or do i have to get the system drained first?
second edit: I have the parts you suggested,
ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/151043193111
ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/140539672227
Final notice here, I went to a shop to see how much they would charge to fix it, 149.99. if i were to change these parts i would need to empty the system right? they also said that they would not empty the system, im assuming because they wanted to charge me for filling it up as well.

gitch, in between the bottom of the evap and the line that goes to the condenser, you do not see it, slides into evap.
Craig, check your PM

Craig sorry its taken me so long to get back to you...its been a little busy...to my knowledge there is no way of doing this service without emptying the system...so im not sure why the shop told you they wouldnt.
There are ways you 'safely' empty the system with out an evac pump....if your interested just PM me

Gitch, I just did this job on mine and I'm not that happy with the temp I'm getting. It was recommended to me that I get what they call a variable orifice tube or VOV. I started with the VOV tube and could not get it to work. Turns out it was a bad out of the box from Napa. Since I had just done what you did, compressor and accumulator, I really wanted to get it going stock then worry about getting it extra cold later. Put an OEM tube in and it works fine when running down the road but its not so cool in stop and go. I now have a VOV that I'm going to install this week as soon as I get my hands on the vac pump and gage set again. Going to go over and get the link for you and edit back in.
This is the one I got although not the same seller, there photo looks slightly different but they do say it's evap mounted.
I can let you know later in the week how it works out. PM me if you want.
