Hi I have a 2000 Jimmy and the alternator is going out. My question is has anybody put in bigger alternators out of another vehicle and how well it worked. Or should i just have an oe alternator built. Thanks!

if you dont have any need for a larger alternator i would just stick to an OE replacement.

I have a pretty large stereo system i'm waiting on putting in because right now my alternator dosen't always work well. And i figure once i install a 4000watt system it'll kill my battery and i'll be stuck with a dead battery.

yes you can fit a larger alternator. I installed a 02 Suburban (AD244) 145amp alternator in my truck. All you need is a bigger serpentine belt which needs to be +- 1"- 1 1/2". The belt I needed was 1 inch larger than the stock belt.

If you mean "larger" in terms of output capacity in amps, try searching ebay. I've seen high output 160 amp on there vs. the standard 105 amp.
