Wondering.... the brake and abs lights come on only after 20-30 start stop cycles and all I have to do is turn the key off and back on and the lights go off and stay off for another 20-30 start stop cycles.

So is this just a history code that I need to clear? I was never able to find someone to read the abs codes so do not know what it is.

The failure that I saw is an ignition latched fault. if the fault occurs, it stay on until the ignition is turned off. Then when turned on next time, if the fault does not exist, the lights will stay off.

The lights do not come on if there is only a "history" code.

You cannot reset the history without the higher level OBD readers. If you can read the ABS codes, you can reset the history. If you can't read the ABS history, you cannot reset the history. It will do nothing for you either.

Trouble shooting without reading the codes or having the codes read, is shooting blind. If you have hours to spend and are prepared for that time to be wasted, then go ahead and pull the ABS controller and resolder. IMO

In Massachusetts your abs lights can be on and still pass inspection. I've resorted to electrical tape over the warning lights. Don't see`em so they don't bother me. And, I`m 55, for more than half my life we didn't have ABS, didn't need it, we know how to drive

rxjimmy: you say you had an ignition latch fault?...which code was that? My point I was making is that the failure is not a "hard" failure due to the length of time between the lites coming on and how they go off with cycling of power.

I do agree that I am "shooting blind" without knowing the codes. Just have not found a shop that will give me the code list at a reasonable charge. So far no free'be.

Well I checked all of the wiring coming from the module and it visually looks okay. I am having kind of a list of electrical problems though, so I think there's a larger problem. So far my ABS lights are on sometimes, air bag light on sometimes and my signal noise just goes on without touching the indicator controls. I have already re grounded the module and the engine seems to have a good ground.

Question Related abs problem

Ok I removed my engine and trans and replaced both 5 years ago.Long story short the engine and trans were in but nothing was hooked up.I recently got it running and somewhat driveable except I have no brakes and bled the front and rear.
I noticed that there are bleeder screw ontop of the abs system do I have bleed it also and is this why Im getting an abs light?

1sttimejimmyowner: yes there are bleeder screws on the ABS, but do not mess with them as the only way to bleed the ABS is with a high end scan tool.

The only way I have found to bleed the brakes on Blazers is via gravity. Open right rear bleeder and loosen master cylinder cap and let gravity do the work. After good amount of drips, close and do left rear. After that I re-do the rears using the pedal up, bleeder closed, pedal down, bleeder open, then close at both rear wheels, one at a time. Then I do the fronts in the same manner.

Be sure the calipers are working. Very common for the pistons to be stuck. Get the rebuilt ones...they are cheap.

Good luck.

I corrected my post above....for some reason I forgot my left and right this morning....probably due to lack of sleep!!!!

Thought I would update my postings:
I went ahead and removed the ABS module to reflow the solder on the connector pins. Got that all done and resealed and back in the Blazer....now time will tell.

And no I still have not found anyone to read the ABS codes for me.

Since the update above the ABS and BRAKE lights came back on, somewhat regular. So I removed the module again and in addition to reflowing hte solder on the connector pins I also did all the solenoids and the relay solder contacts.

So far so good. The lights have stayed off, but not calling this solved just yet. If lights stay off until July 4th, then I will call it solved. Oh and I did get the error code, DC motor circuit failure...or something like that. I did not get to see what the scanner actually displayed.
