automatic transmission question
I have a 1998 Blazer V6 4.3L.....it has run now 210.000KM and in good condition.
Question:
On the Highway or above the 80km/h I drive in D (with overdrive)
BUT:
When I drive in the city I always put the tranny in 3 to avoid the overdrive..
I do this because I feel the car is faster and I think it's better for the transmission.....
A friend of mine told me this is bulls**t
What do you guys think? drive without overdrive is better for the tranny in bussy citytraffic?
greets from a bussy Amsterdam

Down shifting to 3rd will save you some time, especially when going up a hill, when it downshifts from overdrive to 3rd. In 3rd, the gears are at a higher ratio, so you do have more power.
On the other hand, overdrive is there to help save your fuel. I don't know what you get for fuel economy, but mine averages 18 Miles per Gallon (and thats going easy on the throttle!) ...what is that, 2.2 Km/L? Sorry, I don't do metric! like I can imagine your economy will drop when reving higher RPM's in 3rd gear! You shouldn't hurt your tranny either way! Blazers are good like that!
Oh, and hello from America, Dude!
