Okay, I do use my vehicle a lot, sometimes as a mobile office, and to run or charge tools and the such. So I have upgraded my power inverter to an 1800 watt unit, I believe it surges to 3000watts and is capable of 30A draw.

My question is, with this current draw would it be better to upgrade current battery, install a capacitor or add in an auxiliary battery to power the inverter?

If the auxiliary battery unit would be a better choice, how would one go about doing that on this vehicle? I am to assume a high output alternator would be the first step in the process?

Any thoughts or ideas would be great!

 

Think of the car as a boat. Multiple batteries connected by a selector switch. The 2nd battery would be isolated from the starter battery while using the inverter then put it on the "both" setting when you need to recharge it. There are some automatic switches but then can get expensive. The one on my boat runs about $30 and has 3 positions.
1, 2, and 1+2.
