Hey everyone,

I was recently in an accident with my 95 V6 Blazer and I'm in the process of fixing it. The most difficult problem is that the brackets on which you bolt the front bumper bar have been bent so a new bumper won't fit right. I tried hammering them back but that didn't work. Then I tried with a bigger hammer and it still didn't work. So a friend of mine is letting me use his oxi-acetylene torch (the kind used in welding) and I am planning on heating up the brackets to bent/hammer them into the correct shape/location.

Before I did this I thought that I would ask for any advice.

It seems like a decent enough plan... I would perhaps bolt or weld a good long bar or pipe to it first to see if leverage will be kind to you. OA may make it brittle if you aren't careful. Try to avoid getting it red hot and it should be fine. You could also try hooking a hook/chain or tow band to it and using another truck to help pull it out cold forming it.


I'm sure it's fixed by now however....

 

try to locate the actual damage(bend, crease) and heat it just in those areas.
