Default blazer losesing power

my friends blazer (1997) loses power when you step on the gass when it should shift into the passing gear instead it just bogs right out and slows down it dosnt stutter or threaten to stall it just feels like your trying to go up a huge hill towing like 6 other cars lol.... any thoughts guys. if you excel slow it seems fine but once you step on it and the tach hits 3 grand is when it happens

Thanks guys

Tape a fuel pressure gauge to the windshield and go drive it to check the fuel pressure. Could be a clogged filter or a failing pump. Bad cat converter. When was the last tune up? Is there a check engine light? Scan for codes.

Pull the pre-cat O2 sensor (the one directly ahead of the catalytic converter) and see if the symptoms persist. If things get better with the O2 sensor out, your catalytic converter is clogged.

I would try to rent or buy a fuel pressure guage and check the pressure before changing out a perfectly good fuel pump.
