I have a 1996 s-10 2 door. Last July one day it started to rap quite loud. It sounded as if it was coming from the top of the motor. A mechanic said that I had spun a bearing and the motor would need replaced. He put a used motor in for $750.00. The day I took it home, the Service Engine light came on. The code was for a knock Sensor. My mom drove the truck 2 times and it stranded her. I am deployed with the military so I cannot say what exactly happened. Took it back to the same guy and he said this motor is shot. He has had it since January and says he cannot find a motor. He states that only 2 years will fit that truck. I am currently in Iraq and it is difficult to make alot of contact home to verify this. Is there any validity to this. It is a 1996 Vortec 4.3 w/ A/C. 2 door. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

 

Any motor from 96 thru early/mid 2002 will work. He is feeding you a bunch of BS.
