Default Brake Light coming on

My Brake light occasionally comes on then stays on while I'm driving. Does anyone have any ideas as to the cause or how to diagnose the problem?

Default RE: Brake Light coming on

When was the last time you changed your brakes, specifically the front? It may be caused by brake pad wear that has dropped the brake fluid level in the master cylinder reservoir. As the pads wear, the fluid moves out of the reservoir down into the calipers because the piston is not out further. Replacing your pads will move the fluid back into the reservoir.

If you are getting close to replacing your pads, you would want to open the bleed screw as you press the piston back into the caliper so you do not push the old fluid back up through the lines and into the reservoir. Once you have completed the brake job, top off the reservoir with fresh fluid. This will ensure that you do not push any junk that may be residing in the caliper back up through the system to possibly get hung up in the ABS pump or in the master cylinder itself.
