Default broken/bent shift lever

Well we've been having issues with getting the key out. Turns out that our on the column shift lever is broken, or some part in there, like the tensioner spring. either way, when you put it into park the lever just flops around. I have the cowling pulled off and can see the channel it's supposed to follow. But it seems the spring in there is not hitting anything. So I'm thinking that maybe the spring broke or whatever it's supposed to lean against is. Maybe a piece of plastic (ugh, again, plastic) or inside the lever. But I see as it is now leaving it alone the lever does not go back and push the plunger switch to light up the P light on the shift indicator. if you hold it back the P is lit up. Also if you shift it into park and hold the lever back the key comes right out. with it loose like it is you can't really turn the key back to get it to the off position and get the key out. Anyone else have THIS kind of problem. The wife and I were talking just today about the life of this blazer after this year. It might be making the choice for us. also since I've replaced the front two brake calipers and the driver rear had a frozen bleeder. And that doesn't even speak to the worn out gear box. But one headache at a time. Anyone have their shift lever do this?
