Default broken distributer

Well, i went to change cap and rotor on my 96 (150,000 mi) which runs fine. notice the front screw was loose; cap seemed a little loose? Well i changed out rotor and went to replace the cap. back screw went it find; the front I kept trying ang trying. What is it stripped? On closer look, I notice the part on the distrib. body was broken off! any one have this happen to them? will i be able to run wire ties underneath and across the top of dist to get this going? i realize I am probably looking at a new dist; kinda want to put it off for a while if possible. thanks for all replies and ideas for fixes!

The distributor is pretty cheap. I put a new one in mine rather than just replace the worn out gear. It was like $89 or something like that. Pretty inexpensive though really. Just need to find someone with a computer to get it set right for you.

thank you. I tried the wire ties; they seem to hold the cap down pretty tight. putting the wires back on, I realized the parts shop sold me a cap foe a V8! try again tomorrow evening. Damn auto parts store

If it runs fine, and the replacement cap & rotor are not AC Delco, don't bother replacing them. You're asking for trouble, and you'll get it. When it comes time to replace the distributor, make sure you get an all aluminum one, and not the plastic crap, they will do the same thing again.
