Default Broken door latch

New to Blazers and the Blazer forum :-) My wife needed a reliable truck/SUV for work, so we bought a 96 4 door. So far we had to clean out the EGR valve and flush the cooling system, but other than tires brakes etc that's been it ... until now. Not bad considering we bought it with 180k mileson it and we've put another 40k on it since then.

We had a tremendous ice storm recently, and the driver's side door appears to have been a casualty. A small piece of white plastic and a spring dropped out of it, and now it will not close. I have it held shut with a 4" C clamp for now, but this is just a bandaid. Does anyone know where we can get a door latch mechanism and instructions on how to replace it?

Default RE: Broken door latch

Can you determine where the parts came from? Is the catch inside the latch already pushed down? This can sometimes happen and you need a screw driver or something else to push/pry with while you hold the outside or inside handle in the open position. If it looks like there is a bar across the latch, then the catch is in the closed position and needs to be opened.
