1997 Blazer 4x4 4dr.
I have had the vehicle for 2 mos, but fixing things here and there, this morning(17 degrees) I went out, started right up, put defrost on, everything, including the AC compressor kicked in fine. Then about 30 seconds later I heard a terrible sound coming from the AC compressor, I popped the hood to see the clutch not moving and sparks flying, I went in the truck, changed over to just heat, compressor turned off, sound and sparks gone.
I haven't tried turning the AC on again after the engine warmed up, but could that possibly help? I have used defrost, and tested the AC numerous times up until this point. But this might be the coldest morning I've had the truck in.

Only thing I can think of is that the A/C Compressor seized. Can you turn the compressor by hand?

Haven't tried, may run out there at lunch and see. To be honest, I don't care about the AC, can I just disable it somehow? This is just my beater while my GTO is hibernating. I'm about to take the blazer through inspection in Maryland, they wouldn't fail you on a disabled AC would they?

Just pull the electrical connector on the front of the compressor (near the pulley) and it will not be able to turn on. And no, they cannot fail you for an inop A/C system.
