Default A/C Problems

Hey everyone,

About a month ago I was given a 95 Blazer (some nice church friends who are moving to Africa didn't need it) with 155k. The A/C has not worked since I got it. This summer is really bad so I picked up a can of freon to try and fix it. First thing I noticed as that the compressor wasn't spinning. After I added a little freon it would go on and off at about 2 second intervals. I added some more freon but could never get a good pressure reading since the compressor was constantly on and off (but it was going in between really low and really high). I then stopped adding freon when it made a loud squealing sound that scared me. Two days later I tried again but this time the compressor wouldn't turn on even after adding a little more freon. I jumped the compressor to the battery to try and get it to suck up some more freon but then, even with the compressor running, the pressure on my little refrigerant-refill-thing was at zero (but I know there is pressure in the system from poking the high and low values).

I'm stumped. Any suggestions or ideas would be valued.

Thanks.

It usually short cycles for awhile before staying on all of the time. How much did you put in? It may just need some more or it could be a bad pressure switch or plugged orrifice tube.

It's hard to say...probably in the 5-10oz range. How do I check the switch and the orifice tube?

I'm tuned in! I'm chasing a leak....I have put dye in but I am only seeing it around the accumulator. This could be from me putting the dye in. I hate throwing parts at it!
