ZR2 isnt just a lift nor a package. It's a completely different frame, suspension, axles etc. Then there's the body styling on top of that.

The traction aid or w/e the package was called was a dealer option, and I think Bravadas had it standard? But if you have a ZR2 rear axle, that would be the 8.5' rear end (as opposed to non-Z blazers 7.625') with G80 gov-lock.

 

May be a dumb question, is there an easy way of telling the two apart without opening it up? Bolt pattern?

My '93 Bravada has the GT4 (3.73)/G80 (rear axle: positraction) combo and, looking at the manual, it looks like that was standard for the Bravadas. I don't know if it was a dealer or factory option for Blazers and Jimmys...

You could have just ignored the comment as I am sure it was meant as a joke, not a stab, but whatever. I know mine was, but I am sure that it would have been better understood with a smilie or two. Good luck.

Another thing to note, typically when someone asks about requiring a friction modifier, it is because they have a locker or limited slip diff. It is very well known that an open differential requires nothing special. Yet another reason for including all information up front.

Hey guys, I want to service my front and rear differentials soon, I just got my 03 blazer LS 4 door, I checked the glove box and found the code g80 meaning i need no additive, I assume I dont need additive for the front as well??
I've never done this before so im a complete noobie, so to clearify

to drain I loosen all the bolts and take of the diff cover
clean the cover up and get a new seal
put the cover back on and fill it up with 80w90 gear oil through the fill plug

is that right?

Oh my mistake, I need an rtv sealant for the rear and the front diff just has a drain and a fill plug it appears

 

There is a gasket available for the rear. RTV works as well, but you should not fill it up right away if you use RTV.

As far as for the front, there may or may not be a drain plug. Some diffs require you to suck the old gear lube out through the fill port.

As far as the friction modifier, there is no stock diff used in the s-series vehicle that requires any friction modifier additive. None. So you should be good with a 75w90 synthetic gear lube or conventional 80w90, whatever your preference.
