Your ? really begs for another ?. What's going on, if your looking to see if your getting spark or trying to find out if your coil is going bad. To see if you have spark just take the coil wire off the distributor, stick a screw driver in it and hold it close to a ground. Hold the insulated end of the screw driver and have someone give it a crank. You should see spark. If no spark somethings wrong between the key and the coil.
Here is some very good basic stuff. Keep in mind it's kind of rare to have a bad coil.

another way is too pull the plug wire on it off,then sit it back on the stud,but dont push it down. leave it kinda sideways so you can see the inside. Have someone turn the truck over,see if you see a good spark jump and a good tick.
