Default Check DTCs Without Scan Tool

I've read that with all OBDII systems, a scan tool is required to check DTCs. Well, I know for a fact that this is not true. I can ckeck the DTCs on a 2000 Dodge Intrepid and a 2005 Nissan Altima V6 SE with a scan tool.

My question: Can the DTCs on a 2000 Blazer be checked without a scan tool? The Check Engine Light on my dad's Blazer came on two days ago (and has stayed on.)

And, since all of you are Chevy Blazer owners, you would be the ones to ask.

Thanks!!

If you have read that statement on this forum, it is because it applies to all of the s-series and GMT360/370 vehicles. All of the OBD2 vehicles supported by this website require a scan tool to read the codes. There is no on-board means of accessing the powertrain codes.

Thank you for the info. No, I read that elsewhere concerning other vehicles. But, it solves my issue nonetheless. Thanks again!
