I just don't have the scanners and whatnot and I don't feel like going to the part store everytime I need to diagnose an issue or get a data log before it goes into closed loop, this is my first 4x4 to ever own so I don't know much about it like I mentioned in my new member post I have a 97camaro 383 that's my street car and at the moment I'm doing a 4l80e swap and a 24x conversion

For the average DIYer, the Actron CP9575 (~$125) is a decent entry level tool. It will access basic live streaming data, DTC's, freeze frame snapshots and clear the codes from certain files to turn the SES light off. Ebay usually has some decent used Snap on Solus scan tools that are capable of accessing ABS and the BCM as well. Some of the menus on it will allow you to command certain functions in the PCM, EBCM and BCM. They usually start around $2K, depending on the software level and accessories included. The more you spend, the more it will do. Top of the line??? TechII, full access to everything, fully bi-directional, capable of flashing all modules, starts around $10K. And people wonder why they charge so much to run the diagnostics... good tools ain't cheap, and neither is the training to read and understand what the scan tool says
