clunking when braking from pass front tire area
#21
My mechanic has confirmed...ball joints are definitely bad on the pass side...so.im getting them all done on both sides with moogs upper and lowers....also to add injury to insult, both front shocks (originals) are bad...so they are being replaced with oem delcos ...
He said with all labor parts and taxes included....im looking at most 950..which at 85 hour and 7% sales tax..but since they have experience doing these, it would most likely be lower. he quoted me using the times you gave me since he also uses alldata for a source
What do you think about pricing? Its not too far off he broke.it down for me...those ball joints were about 70 avg a piece...that sound right for moogs?

...anyway, ball joints and shocks are both done, was told from two sources (ase) tie rods and both front brakes are are fine, now i hear it in the entire front end. was told the backing plate was not making contact either
also alignment was done.
it rained pretty decently last night, and its been louder now that its wet.
any ideas?

they were also checked during bj and shock install, they are maybe a year old. i went to a different mechanic (the one my girl goes to, they do good work) they said it was most likely the control arm bushings. both sides bushings look the same but its only the passenger side. with the alignment done a week ago the quote was over 500 for a new control arm with ball joints that come with bushings. since they werent 100% i dont wanna throw anymore money out the window
my mechanic friend seems to think (guessing by my description) that the brake pads are moving/loose when braking. how would i be able to tell if its moving when braking?

gonna recheck ebay tomorrow. is there a way to see if its opening and closing properly with a helper pushing the brakes?

yes it is
i also just checked ebay. they either have the seller who doesnt wanna respond selling for 3.86? and the other 2 want over 15 bucks for one with shipping
newer part number for this bushing is 5470497, which is also discontinued

Ok, if its on the passenger side then pull that wheel off, put the lug nuts back on the rotor, put the vehicle up on 4 jackstands, put it in 4x4, have someone get the wheels spinning and watch and listen to that passenger side while they hit the brakes. The momentum should duplicate the clunk, you may have to try forward and reverse.
