Could have been some moisture in the fuel, or a piece of carbon in the EGR valve (if '99's still had one??).
Also could be the first indication of a fuel pump going out or several other things.
And of course the problem will only raise its ugly head when at the most inconvenient time!.....halfway between home and work, raining like crazy, in the middle of an intersection....
