Cracked heads, what are my options?
So I found out from the shop today and started doing some research on getting new heads. I have two options. Maybe more if you guys have any ideas.
My first option is to buy a set of re-manufactured heads.
My second option is to buy a set of heads from the yard.
The first option seems the cheapest in my opinion due to the fact that I would have to probably end up doing a valve job on them any way if I got them from the yard. It would be cheaper up front for heads from the yard but I'd run the risk of getting a set of heads cracked as well.
What are your guy's thoughts?

best to go reman. unless you want to spend a lot of time in a junk yard pulling head after head to find one that you know for sure is good. plus, you need to make sure that you get the same cast number. its on the bottom of the head on one of the ports.
reman heads. Hows the bottom end? if heads are out, check out the cross hatching on the walls. if they look good, and you have good oil pressure then its worth the effort. If its getting a little tired,it might be time for a full rebuild if funds permit.
Sounds like a great excuse to build a 350 and put in there!
But for sure go with the re-manned heads. The ones from the yard might be as bad if not worse than the ones you pulled off.
Also, like Chris said, check the bore while you're there. No sense paying money to out good heads on a worn out bottom end. With a nice tight new head, it's going to put more stress and pressure on the rings.
