Did I kill my 4.3?

Looks like you didn't kill your 4.3! When mine cut loose I had about an extra quart of chocolate milk shake showing on the dipstick and all was well after the LIM job and a few oil changes. You certainly don't want to drive around with coolant in your oil but if it happens, sometimes they can take a lot.
Once in the Bahamas back in the 80's I had a sea water transmission cooler cut loose during the 12 hour run from the states and filled that hot gear (transmission) with salt water making one hell of a mess and the transmission stopped going into gear. I pulled the dipstick and lumpy white chunks fell off. I called a mechanic back in the states and he said just keep changing the fluid until its red again and you would be amazed at how resilient that gear box can be. I was in a remote area of the islands with almost none of the "right stuff" and so I thought, where am I gonna get a couple of gallons of the exact type of transmission fluid that I need. The dock guy stopped by to see what was wrong and I told him I'm in trouble because I need a couple of gallons of blah blah trans fluid. There was no facility here at all, no ship store, nothing. He asked to see the bottle and then said I have some of that. I said no I need this exact type and he confirmed "I have some of that follow me". He takes me through this old broke down building through a door half off the hinges into this dingy dark room with light streaming through cracks in the walls dead rats on the floor and points to this giant stack of transmission fluid boxes in the back all covered in dust. Its literally gallons of the exact type of trans fluid that my gear box needs. I looked around the room and that was it for any other fluids. I got the cooler out of there, rigged up a pressure fitting, located the leaking tubes in a container of water, plugged those tubes with JB Weld, re-installed, did fluid changes until the cottage cheese became white liquid, pink liquid and then red again. The trans started shifting perfect and we finished our trip over hundreds of miles for the next 2 weeks. After I got back to the states I swapped out the cooler and that trans ran perfect until I sold the boat.
