Default Distributor Gasket?

I'm at the point of putting the distributor back on my 1996 4.3L blazer. When I took the distributor out I pointed the rotor to the number 6 (TDC) and marked the position; I also marked the position when it lifted straight up, no problem. I also noticed that there was no gasket either on the distributor shaft or on the intake manifold. The Fel-Pro gasket kit MS98002T has a distributor gasket. I assume I should put it on, but will it move the distributor up 1/16" or 3/32" and put the timing off?

I was very careful and thought it strange not to have a gasket, but we bought it with a little over 82,000 miles on it and the lady that had it before always took it to the same mechanic at a transmission shop. The shop is 120 miles away, so I can't just stop in and talk and I don't remember the name of the shop. I assume if they did something where the distributor had to be removed and forgot the gasket, the liability would have been owed to her (now deceased). Any suggestions???
