Do you have to replace your distributor cap often?

If moisture is a problem inside the cap, there was a GM TSB several years ago that instructed you to inspect/clean the vents/screens in the distributor base to improve ventilation inside the cap. A year or so later, another TSB instructed you to use an awl, punch, screwdriver, etc, to completely remove the vents/screens.
