Have you tried using a stout screwdriver to manually rotate the latch on the door?

You may need something larger than your screwdriver (like a pry bar) that will fit into the latch opening, and a buddy. Hold the door open and, with the bar, push toward the interior side of the door while you lift either the inside or outside door handle. This should force the latch to pop open.

Hhmm, the prybar + door handle lift should have popped the latch open. How about some info on when and how the trouble started? I doubt that it just happened while both doors were standing open.
