Default Driving with a leaking front cover?

Hey all

2001 4WD Blazer here

I was planning to change the radiator+hoses and the water pump on my blazer and thought I would change the timing cover and the timing chain as well until I realized that the oil pan must come off....

So Just wondering If I can drive it as is? Whats the worse that can happen as time goes?

You'll keep losing oil out of it, and it's likely you'll run your engine low on oil at some point-which can cause a bunch of internal engine problems.

Really depends upon the leak rate...just how much oil is leaking? The front cover on my Blazer has been seeping oil for over 5 years. I did get tired of this once and cleaned the area with brake cleaner and put some RTV in the space between the cover and block. Stopped the oil leak for awhile but of course this is not a permanent fix by any means and after a year or so the oil seeping began again.

I was going to fix it last year, but that is going to be ALOT of work to drop the front diff down enough to get the oil pan off and then the front cover. Trouble is the rear main seal is also leaking and that means dropping the T-case and transmission and getting the special tool for the rear main seal installation.

Again ALOT of work for 3-5 drips of oil nightly. I just have learned to check the oil level often.
