As a new member, I have read "many pages" of posts and find this forum to be full of useful info. One topic contiues to show up and that is that in a 98 LT such as mine the "spider" should be updated. Is there an easy way to identify if this update has been done? And, is this something that is enough benefit to do now or should a person wait until they have to dig into the plenum for other reasons.
Thanks!

It is not that difficult to replace the spider, but if you dont have the right tools and are mechanically inclined and used to working on these vehicles it could be tough. So, I would say leave it alone until or even if a problem arises. If you are into working on vehicles then you probably have the skills and ability to do it but it isn't cheap. You also only want to use a AC Delco or Delphi spider assembly and make sure it is the MPI upgrade unit. When I went to do mine the unit the guy at my store showed me stated it was an update unit but when we took it out of the box it was clearly the old poppet style. This was even after I told him i wanted the AC Delco MPI unit so just always double check when you buy it.
