Default Engine Ceased - How to torque converter.

1996 Chevrolet Blazer, got a Auto repair manual but not finding the answers I want. I have 3 days done, trying to get 96 4.3 out. Bang your head.

Engine started nocking and ceased up after big bang, big smoke and then big oil spot. Got 2002 4.3 Vortec to replace 1996 4.3 Vortec. Pulling 96 and can not get torque converter bolts cause the engine will not turn. Removed tranny mount and driveshaft to rear and removed driveshaft to front. Removed cross-member.

Now moved tranny as far back to where it would hit the chassis cut-out for the tranny bell-housing. I still have the transfer case attached to tranny. I got about 8 - 9 inches between engine and tranny, It looks as if I can get the bottomtorque converter bolt, Starter side torque converter bolt. ( how do I get the third on driver side torque converter bolt, wont turn.

Every time I start pulling the engine it will not pass the front axle.
Do I split the tranny and transfer and completely remove them and get the torque converter off ?, Will the engine and torque converter pass the front axle ?or Do I have to remove the front axle?

Default Now what

ninteensixtycaddy had completely destroyed his oil pan to get the engine out.
Suggestions were to:
1: drop diff.
2: try move trans back
3. big sledge and bust oil pan
4: remove trans and engine as one
5: try for another truck.

I guess Ill take its drop diff. If this is correct, that means removing axle.
Please fill me in, tell me like Im a two year old.
Thanks Dave,
