Default Engine Overheating!

Welp, my wife's blazer hit 260º today. Poor thing, she was on her way to her last final exam of her college career. So she is all stressed out because her baby "has a temperature". She said her coolant reservoir was completely EMPTY before she left, so she filled it up. Didn't make it about 3 miles down the road and it was up over 240º. It isn't exceptionally hot outside (approx 85 degrees). She also told me a few days ago that her A/C is hotter than if she had the heat on (whether that is relevant or not, I'm not sure).

I have noticed the reservior will slowly leak down. No puddles and the oil looks good. Checked the weep hole and it looks okay. I crawled underneath and I could see there was coolant on a few of the linesso it is leaking somewhere but I never could see from where. It appears to be on the driver's side of the engine. Idid a search on the forumand think it is the intake manifold gasket from the threads I read. This looks like it is going to be a blast to replace (sarcasm). Any thoughts or suggestions?Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Default RE: Engine Overheating!

Could be the fan clutch! (don't jump to gaskets!) I had a problem last summer where a failed radiator cap (factory plastic one) was venting pressure, and when the fan clutch was bad and not pulling air when in traffic, the coolant was boiling off...leading to an overheating problem. Thankfully I was in no pressure to go anywhere, so I could pull over and let it cool off.

To test the fan clutch, with the engine cold, go out and try to spin the fan by hand. It should go around pretty freely (with the bad clutch, I only spun it to the next blade before it stopped on its own).

However, with the rapidity of the heating, and loss of coolant, you very well could have a gasket issue [&o]

Hmmm, I will give that a shot.I climbed under it again when I got home from work and saw coolant seeping down the block from behindand from the power steering pump. The AC Compressor was in my way to see where the leak was coming from looking from the top. And the PS pump was blocking my view so I could never see where the leak was coming from, from underneath. It would be wonderful if there was a bad gasket on the water pump or something like that.
